Schedule for January. Last week, mobile medical teams made their initial visits to the communities of Slovechanska and Olevska. Over 50 local residents from the villages of Prybitky and Kalynivka sought consultations and examinations from healthcare professionals.
Within the project “Restoring Access to Medical Services in Zhytomyr Region”, three mobile medical teams (MMTs) have been established, consisting of a doctor, nurse, psychologist, and social worker. These MMTs conduct visits to residents of three communities in the region: Narodytska, Olevska, and Slovechanska. The purpose of these visits is to restore access to medical services, provide primary medical assistance, as well as offer psychological support and social assistance.
“The first visits were made to Slovechanska and Olevska communities on January 10 and 11, with the next ones scheduled for January 17 and 18. Starting from January 23, the MMT will also visit Narodytska community,” says the In Touch Ukraine Foundation.
The initial visits to communities revealed a significant demand for such services, as it is challenging for people from remote villages to reach medical facilities. Most of the patients who came for consultations were elderly individuals. MMTs conduct screenings for diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hearing loss, as well as gender-based violence (GBV) and depression.
In January, MMTs will provide services according to the following schedule:
- January 17 – MMT visit to Slovechanska community, village Syrnitsya.
- January 18 – MMT visit to Olevska community, village Maydan.
- January 23 – MMT visit to Narodytska community, village Radcha.
- January 24 – MMT visit to Slovechanska community, village Cherevki.
- January 25 – MMT visit to Olevska community, village Zolnia.
- January 30 – MMT visit to Narodytska community, village Davidky.
Over the course of 9 months, mobile medical teams (MMTs) will continue to make visits to various settlements in the northern communities of the region, aiming to restore access to medical services for local residents. The MMTs will be equipped with medical devices for screenings, including a cholesterol-glucose meter, tuning fork, electrocardiograph, audiometer, spirometer, peak flow meter, portable ultrasound machine, reusable pediatric airway kit, automatic external defibrillator, pulse oximeter, pediatric and adult blood pressure monitors, otoscope-ophthalmoscope, and an optometric kit.
The NGO “In Touch Ukraine Foundation” is the implementing partner of the USAID project “Innovations for HIV Epidemic Control,” focusing on restoring access to medical services in communities of the Zhytomyr region (through MMTs).
During patient examinations, MMT members can conduct the following tests: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, C; pregnancy test; blood glucose level test; blood cholesterol level test; multi-component urine test; D-dimer test; C-reactive protein test; streptococcal angina diagnostic test for children; Troponin test.
