Water - Hygiene - Sanitation
Much of UNICEF’s work is conducted in fragile and emergency situations to help prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies. This includes transporting water, ensuring its purification, and building water supply and sanitation facilities. In connection with military actions on the territory of Ukraine, these issues have become quite acute.
Access to drinking water
Violent hostilities on the territory of the country led to the destruction of water and energy supply systems in Ukraine. As a result, 4.6 million Ukrainians were left without access to clean water, according to the Twitter page of the Ukrainian office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Hygiene
Personal hygiene rules are health rules, prevention of many diseases. Parents are informed about basics of hygienic child care. The issue of personal hygiene skills formation in preschool education institutions, state and non-state kindergartens remains open.
Sanitation
The consequences of unsanitary conditions for children can be fatal. More than 700 children under the age of 5 worldwide die every day from diarrheal diseases due to lack of adequate WASH services. In conflict zones, children die almost 20 times more often from diarrheal diseases than from the conflict itself.
