The same number of visits were made by the mobile medical teams (MMTs) in February to the Narodychi, Olevske, and Slovechanske communities. Members of MMTs provided consultations to approximately 360 individuals last month. This includes not only medical services but also social-psychological support.
Within the framework of the project “Restoring Access to Medical Services in the Communities of Zhytomyr Oblast,” three mobile medical teams (MMTs) have been established, consisting of a doctor, nurse, psychologist, and social worker. From January to September of this year, MMTs will visit the settlements of three communities in the region to provide primary medical care as well as psychological support and social assistance.
MMTs conduct screenings for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hearing loss, gender-based violence (GBV), and depression. They can perform electrocardiograms, measure cholesterol levels, conduct ultrasound examinations, and more. All services provided by MMTs are free of charge.
In March, MMTs will visit the following locations according to the schedule:
05.03 – Sukharivka village, Brodnik village, Narodychi TC;
06.03 – Stari Velidnyky village, Slovechanske TC;
07.03 – Pokrovske village, Olevske TC;
12.03 – Noryntsi village, Narodychi TC;
13.03 – Usovo village, Slovechanske TC;
14.03 – Novoozeryanka village, Olevske TC;
19.03 – Klochky village, Narodychi TC;
20.03 – Krasilivka village, Slovechanske TC;
21.03 – Zamysovychi village, Olevske TC;
26.03 – Latashi village, Narodychi TC;
27.03 – Bihun village, Slovechanske TC;
28.03 – Lopatychi village, Olevske TC.
“We are already expected in the village,” say the members of the mobile medical teams who travel to the settlements of Slovechanske, Narodychi, and Olevske communities. People of all ages – both young and elderly – come to the MMTs. Some seek to communicate directly with the doctor, but many require psychological support.
The arrival of MMTs to the village is not just an opportunity for local residents to consult with a doctor, although this is very important. After all, people do not always have the opportunity to travel to the city alone to undergo preventive medical examinations due to the remoteness of the settlement, lack of funds, or irregular passenger transport. MMTs also listen to people and provide psychosocial support. Psychological consultations are no less in demand than medical ones.
The project “Restoring Access to Medical Services in the Communities of Zhytomyr Oblast,” implemented within the framework of the USAID project support, jointly with PACT “Innovations for HIV Epidemic Overcoming,” aims to help community members receive medical and social-psychological services. Visits are scheduled until September to maximize coverage of all villages in these communities.
