In May, Mobile Medical Teams Will Visit 15 More Villages in Zhytomyr Region

Three mobile medical teams continue to restore access to medical services in Zhytomyr Region. Every week, they visit the communities of Narodytska, Olevska, and Slovechanska. In May, 15 visits to villages in these communities are planned. During these visits, MMT members provide medical and socio-psychological services. Elevated blood glucose levels are the most common finding among the people they serve.

Since early January, over 1,000 people have received services from mobile medical teams (MMT). It is planned that by the end of September, MMTs will have made over 100 visits to remote settlements, where people lack the opportunity for regular doctor visits due to the absence of regular passenger transport, distance from primary healthcare centers, or limited mobility. It is important to remember that early diagnosis can significantly improve life, avoid complications, and even help overcome disease. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure the possibility of regular medical check-ups to maintain health.

To this end, in May, MMTs will visit:

  • Prybytky, Lystvyn, Novi Velidnyky, and Tkhorin in the Slovechanska community;
  • Varvarivka, Zubkovychi, Zaboroche, Kyshyn, Stovpynka, and Tepenytia in the Olevska community;
  • Zakusily, Selets, Radcha, and Hrezlia in the Narodytska community.

As a reminder, MMTs consist of a family doctor, nurse, psychologist, and social worker. Sometimes, specialists such as a cardiologist, neurologist, and gynecologist also accompany MMTs.

During their visits, mobile medical teams conduct four types of medical screenings: for diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and hearing loss. Additionally, MMTs perform on-site diagnostics such as electrocardiography, otoscopy, ophthalmoscopy, and vision acuity measurement. If needed, they can conduct ultrasound diagnostics and tests for cholesterol, troponin, HIV, hepatitis B and C, and measure blood oxygen levels.

Mobile medical teams operate within the framework of the “Innovations to Overcome the HIV Epidemic” project supported by USAID (the United States Agency for International Development) in collaboration with PACT. This project is implemented in Zhytomyr Region by the NGO “In Touch Ukraine Foundation.”
