Launch of the Transportation Service
In May, the patient transportation service was launched in Zhytomyr region as part of the initiative to restore access to medical and psychosocial services. Residents of the Olevsk, Narodychi, and Slovechno communities can use this service. People receive referrals to specialists during examinations by mobile medical team (MMC) professionals and are then directed to the transportation service provider.
Purpose of the Service
This project aims to ensure access to specialized and planned medical care for people with severe chronic diseases. “Twenty patients have already used this service, and new appointments are scheduled for June,” says Anastasia Batireva, coordinator of the mobile medical teams.
Support from USAID Project
Since January this year, the NGO “In Touch Ukraine Foundation” has been implementing the project “Restoring Access to Medical Services for Residents of Zhytomyr Region Communities” with the support of USAID and in collaboration with Pact’s “Innovations to Combat the HIV Epidemic” project.
How to Use the Service
Residents of the Olevsk, Narodychi, and Slovechno communities can come for a consultation with the mobile medical team (MMC) and, if necessary, get a referral to a specialist. If the patient is unable to reach the necessary doctor on their own, the MMC directs them to the patient transportation service provider. Thus, the patient is transported from home to the hospital for the necessary examinations and consultations with doctors and then transferred back home.
Benefits of the Service
The patient transportation service enhances the services provided by the mobile medical teams in Zhytomyr region, ensuring that local residents in the northern communities of the region have access to medical services. This service has become available for the first time in Ukraine specifically in Zhytomyr region.

Expansion of the Service’s Geography
The patient transportation service operates in Zhytomyr region as well as in communities in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions where mobile medical teams are active.
