Medical Nurse/Orderly for the Interdisciplinary Mobile Team of the Project “Building a Resilient Public Health System in the Communities of Zhytomyr Region”

Organizational context of the work: The Non-Governmental Organization “IN TOUCH Ukraine Foundation” is looking for an expert who can perform the role of a medical nurse as part of the interdisciplinary mobile team for the project “Restoration of access to medical services in the communities of Zhytomyr region” within the framework of the project “Innovations to combat the HIV epidemic” for 2 months.

The project is implemented by the NGO “IN TOUCH Ukraine Foundation” in the region with the support of the USAID project “Building a resilient public health system”, financed by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Pact organization in partnership with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and the European Institute of Public Health Policy (EIPHP).

The project aims to provide medical and psychosocial assistance to remote settlements in Zhytomyr region (Olevska, Slovechanska, and Narodytska communities).

The goal of the USAID project “Building a resilient public health system” (2022-2027) is to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Ukraine to prevent, detect, and respond to threats to public health, ensure the performance of critical public health functions in crisis periods, and protect the health of all Ukrainians, including vulnerable and marginalized groups, as well as to expand and provide mental health services to populations affected by war.

The MMK is a multidisciplinary team of professionals who provide the community with medical care, mental health care services, and psychosocial support, which is as close as possible to the client’s place of residence (stay). MMK consists of a doctor (doctors), a nurse/paramedic, a social worker, a psychologist, and a driver.

Brief description of functional responsibilities:

  • Performs medical procedures, conducts instrumental examinations and testing.
  • Maintains medical documentation.
  • Assesses the results of screening interventions.
  • Controls proper storage and accounts for the use of medicines, medical products, and consumables.
  • Obtains informed consent from the client.

Requirements for a medical nurse/paramedic are detailed below.

Requirements for the Candidate:

Educational Qualifications: Professional education (junior specialist) or higher education (junior bachelor, bachelor, master) in the field of “Healthcare”, specialization in “Nursing”, specializations: “Nursing Practice”, “Therapeutic Practice”, “Obstetric Practice”. Incomplete higher education (junior specialist) in the field of “Medicine” with a specialization in “Therapeutic Practice”, “Pediatrics”.

Certification: Certification according to legislation and/or formal or informal professional training.

Work Experience: At least 1 year of experience in the field.

Responsibilities of a Doctor (Head of MMK): Responsible for coordinating the work of MMK professionals, medical assessment of clients’ condition, provision of medical care/consultations, treatment prescriptions, making managerial/operational decisions.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Google Drive, Google Docs, Canvas, Figma, CRM systems, Data Check.
  • Possession of certificates for professional development or competency development will be an advantage.

Professional Competencies:

  • Clear understanding of the medical-diagnostic process.
  • Proficiency in resuscitation techniques, ability to provide assistance in traumatic injuries, bleeding, collapse, poisoning, drowning, mechanical asphyxia, anaphylactic shock, burns, frostbite, allergic conditions, etc.
  • Knowledge of aseptic and antiseptic methods.
  • Adherence to medical ethics principles.

Client Interaction Principles:

  • Respect for the dignity of every individual.
  • Priority of clients’ interests.
  • Tolerance.
  • Trust and collaboration in solving clients’ problems.
  • Accessibility of services.
  • Confidentiality.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to provide consultations to clients and their family members.
  • Effective collaboration with other members of the medical mobile team.
  • Willingness to work together and perform assigned tasks in important medical situations.

Responsibilities of the Medical Nurse in the MMK:

  • Execution of medical prescriptions, assistance in conducting screening for NCDs, etc.
  • Performance of manipulations and procedures according to the job profile (measurement of blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.).
  • Collection, storage, and delivery of biological materials for laboratory tests as needed.
  • Provision of medical care to clients at the MMK workplace.
  • Medical sorting, reception, and observation of clients (assessment of health status and identification of any health deteriorations).
  • Assistance to mobility-impaired patients and persons with special needs.
  • Identification of clients in need of psychological and/or social support and referral to the MMK psychologist and social worker.
  • Educational work.

Emotion and Stress Management:

  • Development and improvement of strategies for managing one’s own emotions and stress to ensure effectiveness and professionalism in the work of MMK specialists.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintenance of medical documentation.
  • Documentation of services provided and consultations.
  • Preparation of reports on work results and recommendations for further care.
