Mobile Medical Teams in Zhytomyr Region: Restoring Access to Medical Services in Remote Communities

In the Zhytomyr region, mobile medical teams (MMT) continue their vital mission — providing residents of remote communities with high-quality medical services. This project, implemented by the In Touch Ukraine Foundation with the support of USAID and Pact, has been helping restore access to medical care in the most remote corners of the region for ten consecutive months.

Achievements over Ten Months of Work

During the project’s implementation, nearly 2,700 people received consultations from family doctors, specialists, and psychologists. The mobile teams offer a wide range of services, including primary medical care, psychological support, and social counseling. Special attention is given to the residents of Slovechanske, Olevske, and Narodytske communities, where access to medical services was limited.

August: A Special Month for MMT

August was a particularly significant month for the work of the mobile medical teams in the Zhytomyr region. During this period, a substantial number of children received medical and socio-psychological services. The MMT conducted 13 visits to remote villages in the Narodytske, Slovechanske, and Olevske communities, where 20-25 people typically attend consultations with doctors, psychologists, and social workers. Among all the patients in August, 91 were children.

Parents actively brought their children for medical check-ups before the start of the school year. For instance, on August 28, in the village of Lystvyn in the Slovechanske community, the MMT provided consultations to 35 children and their parents. According to MMT doctors, the children were very open in their communication, eager to learn how to calculate their body mass index and develop healthy eating habits.

Visits to Localities in September

In September, the mobile medical teams will continue their work and visit six localities, specifically:

  • 03.09 – Sukharyvka, Narodytske community;
  • 04.09 – Illimka, Slovechanske community;
  • 05.09 – Kalynyka, Olevske community;
  • 10.09 – Mezhyliska, Narodytske community;
  • 11.09 – Luchanky, Slovechanske community;
  • 12.09 – Zamyslovychi, Olevske community.

Partnership and Support

This project is part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening public health, particularly in the context of combating the HIV epidemic. Collaboration with USAID and Pact allows the mobile medical teams to provide comprehensive services that consider the specific needs of the local population.

Mobile medical teams in the Zhytomyr region play a crucial role in meeting the medical needs of the population, especially in situations where traditional access to healthcare facilities is limited. Thanks to this project, residents of the Slovechanske, Olevske, and Narodytske communities receive quality medical care and support, positively impacting their health and well-being.

In Touch Ukraine Foundation continues its work aimed at supporting and developing communities by ensuring access to essential medical services in the most remote corners of the region.
