Organizational Context of the Position:
The NGO “In Touch Ukraine Foundation” is looking for a specialist to perform the role of a psychologist for clients of the psychological support spaces (PSS) in the project “Psychological Support Spaces in Communities of Zhytomyr Region within the framework of the project ‘Innovations to Overcome the HIV Epidemic'” for a period of 2 months.
The project “Psychological Support Spaces in Communities of Zhytomyr Region within the framework of the project ‘Innovations to Overcome the HIV Epidemic'” is implemented according to a grant agreement between the NGO “In Touch Ukraine Foundation” and Pact Inc. No. 380-019127 dated April 1, 2024, and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project is executed by a consortium of three organizations: Pact, FHI 360, and AFEW-Ukraine (AIDS Foundation East-West).
The project aims to create a network of psychological support spaces in the territories of Olevska, Slovechanska, and Narodytska communities of Zhytomyr Region to provide psychological help and support to the population affected by armed aggression.
Brief Description of Duties:
- Conduct psychological consultations online for PSS clients;
- Assess clients’ psychological state using psychometric methods;
- Provide support and restore clients’ functioning in physical, emotional, intellectual, and social spheres;
- Counsel on mental and behavioral disorders and conditions resulting from illness/injury, occupation, participation in hostilities, emergencies, captivity, imprisonment, etc.;
- Offer psychological education and information services, ensure psychosocial support for clients and their families.
Requirements for the Psychologist:
- Higher education in Psychology, Medical Psychology, or Medicine (specialization in Medical Psychology, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, Psychophysiology);
- At least one year of practical experience in healthcare or rehabilitation facilities and/or practical work in the specialty. Completion of formal or informal professional training;
- At least 3 years of experience in the field;
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Google Drive, Google Docs, Canvas, Figma, CRM systems, Data Check;
- Certificates of qualification improvement or competency development are an advantage.
Professional Competencies:
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in practical situations;
- Ability to identify clients’ needs and problems, analyze them, and develop appropriate assistance strategies together with the client;
- Capability to establish quality contact with clients and their families, demonstrating effective communication and active listening skills;
- Ability to plan work, set priorities, and manage time;
- Understanding of legal frameworks and ethical standards in work and their application in practice;
- Ability to assess psychological conditions, analyze existing needs with the client, and provide basic psychological consultations according to the client’s request;
- Effective use of psychotherapeutic techniques to reduce stress and anxiety in clients.
Principles of Interaction with Clients:
- Respect for human rights, honesty, and dignity: the psychologist treats all clients with respect and without prejudice, regardless of their experiences, habits, lifestyle, etc.;
- Professional competence: the psychologist chooses evidence-based and scientifically grounded work methods that meet the client’s requests and needs;
- Voluntariness: psychological counseling services are provided exclusively on a voluntary basis and according to the client’s request;
- Confidentiality: the psychologist informs the client about the preservation of confidentiality and the exceptions under which it may be breached.
Counseling:
- Provide counseling on mental and behavioral disorders and conditions resulting from illness/injury, participation in hostilities, emergencies, etc.;
- Develop and implement individual psychological strategies to overcome emotional and psychological difficulties.
Teamwork and Interprofessional Cooperation:
- Participate in joint meetings and consultations with other project team members;
- Provide consultation and psychological support to other team members to ensure balanced and effective work in stressful situations if needed;
- Provide consultations and psychosocial support to clients’ families, especially in cases of crisis situations and serious diagnoses;
- Facilitate the establishment of positive and trusting contact between clients and their families.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Counseling skills: ability to provide consultations and recommendations necessary for preventing, overcoming, or minimizing the negative effects of difficult life circumstances;
- Teamwork: ability to collaborate with other project team members and coordinate joint efforts to achieve project goals;
- Leadership skills: ability to effectively manage a group and take responsibility in important and/or stressful situations.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain documentation of services provided according to donor and NGO requirements;
- Prepare reports on the results of work.
