- Zhytomyr region is the second region in Ukraine to start implementing the Universal-Progressive Model of Home Visits for pregnant women and families with children from 0 to 3 years (UPM). It will continue to implement the “Care from Birth at Home” project together with other regions of Ukraine.
Out of 56 Primary Health Care Centers in the region, 15 already provide patronage services using this model (UPM). 59 healthcare workers have been trained in UPM and have started working. Four patronage nurses have received thanks from the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
During April 3-7, representatives of In Touch Ukraine Foundation, Zhytomyr Medical Institute, and the “Primary Health Care Center” of Korostyshiv City Council underwent training on “Support for Young Children and Families for Optimal Development” with the support of UNICEF Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
💙Early childhood is a time of limitless possibilities. During this period, behavior patterns, competencies, and learning are established and strengthened, and social-ecological factors begin to change genetic inheritance, brain cells grow significantly, and biological pathways to overcome stress are laid.
In early childhood, children learn faster than at any other time in life. To fully unfold their potential, they need love and affection, attention, encouragement, and cognitive stimulation, as well as proper nutrition and adequate medical care.
The quality of care in the first few years of life, including medical care, nutrition, social interaction, and stimulation, can impact brain development. Therefore, UPM meetings with families in their environment and homes provide an opportunity to truly understand the resources surrounding children and create a safe environment that will help them in learning, development, and positive self-realization.
💛We work together towards the development and health protection. The priority is the expansion of the universal-progressive model of home visitation patronage to pregnant women and families with children from 0 to 3 years.
