Today, November 14, a training and resource center for implementing the universal-progressive home visiting model for families with children from birth to three years old opened in Lutsk. This is the second such center in Ukraine as part of the joint “Care from Birth at Home” program of UNICEF and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Center Based at Volyn Medical Institute
The center, established at the Volyn Medical Institute, will train primary care doctors and nurses who provide home visit services to families with children from birth to age 3, as well as demonstrate family interactions in a home setting. Additionally, responsible parenting courses will be organized for those planning to become parents or who already are.
Representatives and Organizations Attending the Opening
The opening was attended by representatives of UNICEF Ukraine, the Volyn Regional Council and Regional Administration, In Touch Ukraine Foundation NGO, and Volyn Medical Institute.
Competition for Creating Training and Resource Centers in Ukraine
In March, In Touch Ukraine Foundation held a competition to establish 12 training and resource centers across Ukraine. The Volyn Medical Institute received support to enhance its facilities with this center.
Two Zones in the New Center: Training and Simulation
The newly established center consists of two areas:
- Training Zone: For training medical professionals, institute students, and future parents.
- Simulation Zone: For developing practical skills in newborn care and identifying safety risks for children in the home.
Learning Environment and Qualified Staff
The learning space is fully equipped for training and a comfortable experience. The center is staffed by qualified administrators who have been trained in the universal-progressive home visiting model.
Information Sessions and Responsible Parenting Training Held
Three information sessions for healthcare workers on the specifics and benefits of the universal-progressive home visiting model have already been held. Additionally, responsible parenting courses have been organized, with 14 participants completing 8 modules covering newborn care, the importance of breastfeeding, the father’s role in upbringing, and more. Further responsible parenting courses are planned, and training is free of charge. Learn more about the School of Responsible Parenting.
Address of the Training and Resource Center

Project “Implementation of the Universal Progressive Home Visiting Model”
The training and resource center in Lutsk was created as part of the project “Implementation of the Universal Progressive Home Visiting Model and Integrated Child-Centered Health Services at the Local Level in Selected Regions of Ukraine,” implemented by In Touch Ukraine Foundation with support from UNICEF and financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through KFW Development Bank.

Network of Training and Resource Centers in Ukraine
This year, as part of the project, 12 training and resource centers are being established in 7 regions of Ukraine, including Volyn, Lviv, Zakarpattia, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk. The first such center in Ukraine was opened in 2023 at the Zhytomyr Medical Institute.
Thanks to centers like the one in Lutsk, Ukraine is improving the provision of socio-medical assistance to families with young children. We invite healthcare workers, parents, and all interested parties to support the project and visit the center for more information.
